A Grilled Cheese Sandwich is the ultimate comfort food.

With its golden, crispy bread and melted, gooey cheese, this classic sandwich is simple yet satisfying.

Whether served on its own or paired with a bowl of tomato soup, it’s a timeless favorite for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (sourdough, white, or wheat)

  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)

  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)

  • (Optional) Add-ons like tomato slices, bacon, or ham

Instructions

Step 1

Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.

Step 2

Place 2 slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet. Layer 2 slices of cheese on each piece of bread, and top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.

Step 3

Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted. If the bread is browning too quickly, reduce the heat to prevent burning before the cheese fully melts.

Step 4

(Optional) For extra flavor, add tomato slices, bacon, or ham between the cheese layers before grilling.

Step 5

Remove from the skillet, slice, and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or alongside a bowl of tomato soup.

Tips

  • For an extra crispy crust, sprinkle a little Parmesan on the outside of the bread before grilling.

  • Want a unique twist? Try using different types of cheese like Gruyère, mozzarella, or pepper jack.
